Woodside’s highlights include preserves such as the Purisima Open Space (part of the Mid-peninsula Regional Open Space), where horseback riding and bicycling are popular. The town even maintains numerous trails specifically for horseback riding.

The town of Woodside is rich in history as well as wildlife and native vegetation. It is home to both rare species of animal as well as plants and flowers including the San Mateo Thornmint (Acanthomintha duttonii).
